Family Learning Consortium: Jobs in Newport

families first

“Families First” is a major Welsh Government Initiative, operating until March 2017,addressing issues of Child Poverty which in Newport is to be delivered via six work strands. Although different Consortia will manage each of the delivery strands, it is intended to be a unified programme with joint working and systems and a great deal of cross referral. The Family Learning strand will be managed by a consortium consisting of South East Wales Race Equality Council (SEWREC), Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations (GAVO), Llamau, Charter and Melin Housing Associations, Newport City Homes and the SE Wales WEA.

Family Skills Project Manager (SEWREC) 37.5 hours £27,849
This post will lead a multi-partner delivery team with other team members employed by different consortium partners. Although not line managing all posts this post will be responsible for coordination of the whole team, creation and monitoring of work plans.

Skills Engagement Worker (1) (SEWREC) 37.5 hours £23,708
This post will be responsible for successfully engaging adults in the project, assessing their needs, agreeing personal development plans, coordinating activities to meet those plans and
providing ongoing support and evaluation of those plans throughout their period of engagement.

Skills Engagement Worker (2) (SEWREC) 37.5 hours £23,708
This post will be responsible for successfully engaging adults in the project, assessing their needs, agreeing personal development plans, coordinating activities to meet those plans and
providing ongoing support and evaluation of those plans throughout their period of engagement. Initially a primary focus will be upon adults in minority ethnic communities.

Skills Engagement Worker (3) (Llamau) 37.5 hours £23,708
This post will be responsible for successfully engaging adults in the project, assessing their needs, agreeing personal development plans, coordinating activities to meet those plans and
providing ongoing support and evaluation of those plans throughout their period of engagement. Initially a primary focus will be upon adult under 25 and vulnerable women.

Learning Programme Coordinator (SEWREC) 30 hours £18,996 (£23,708 pro rata)
This post will be responsible for recruiting, training and supporting a pool of tutors and support workers. It will coordinate and organise courses and personal development programmes to fit with personal development plans produced by engagement workers. It will implement a Quality Assurance Framework and development programme for all tutors, support workers and volunteers employed by Consortium partners.

Placements Worker (GAVO) 37 hours £23,708
This post will be primarily responsible for developing and supporting volunteering and work placements, for adults engaged in the project, in private, public and third sector organisations in Newport. This plays a crucial role in preparation of adults for the workplace

Delivery will be through a project team (see posts above) supported by a pool of tutors and
locum support workers and assisted by front line staff of partner organisations. The latter
particularly helping with mapping, engagement and financial inclusion and employability advice
brings enormous added value to core project funding. Management of posts will be shared
amongst partners but delivery will be coordinated through the lead partner SEWREC.
The team will focus on engaging adults living in families in, or at risk of, poverty (below 60% of
mean income) and improving their skills, confidence and readiness for work or formal education.
The adults being worked with will be either economically inactive or in low skilled and poorly
paid work.

Delivery will be coordinated with the other five strands of Families First within Newport, the
central Team Around the Family (TAF) and the Families First Manager of Newport City Council.
The delivery team will also work closely with staff of other organisations sharing our common
agenda. The first year is likely to be a formative period as all six strands evolve and it is quite
likely there will be significant shifts in job roles, team composition, outcomes etc as delivery
matures.
